World powers, Iran start fresh round of nuclear talks in Almaty

Almaty , Fri, 05 Apr 2013 ANI

Almaty, April 5 (Xinhua-ANI): World powers started a fresh round of nuclear talks with Iran here on Friday.

In the two-day conclaves, the six powers - the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany - are expected to discuss with Iranian negotiators on the group's proposals forwarded to Tehran during the previous February round talks.

European Union Foreign Policy chief Catherine Ashton has appealed for a clear and concrete answer from Iranian officials to the offer detailing initial efforts to build mutual trust.

A separate meeting will be held to coordinate the six powers' position ahead of the negotiations, said Michael Mann, spokesperson for Ashton.

Iran and the West have long been at odds over Tehran's nuclear program, which the West suspects aims to give Tehran the capability to build an atom bomb, while Iran insists it is for civilian use. (Xinhua-ANI)
