Rupert Murdoch says Australia's stand on foreign workers 'disgraceful, racist'

Sydney , Tue, 02 Apr 2013 ANI

Sydney, Apr. 2 (ANI): News Corporation chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch has labelled Australian Labor Party's language on foreign workers 'disgraceful and racist'.

Speaking in Darwin, Murdoch said immigration from overseas and Australia's southern states was the key to economic progression in the country's northern states.

According to the Herald Sun, when asked what the government should do about immigration, Murdoch said that he thought the way they're talking about the 457 visas is pretty disgraceful and racist.

He said that he encouraged immigration, and that was the future.

Murdoch told Sky News economic opportunity in the northern states was 'just tremendous', but said the right infrastructure needed to be put in place.

The government has expressed concerns the 457 visa programme is being abused by employers and that Australian workers are missing out on jobs.

Last week Prime Minister Julia Gillard said there was strong evidence to support claims some employers are rorting the 457 temporary visa system for foreign workers, the report added. (ANI)
