One mln women to walk into record books to mark Int'l Women's Day in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Mar. 10 (ANI): With an aim to mark International Women's Day, a million women will walk into the records book with a street gathering in Putrajaya and similar events at 14 other locations nationwide on March 17.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will flag off the 1 Million Women Purple Walk in the federal administration center, reports The Star.

The walk, in conjunction with International Women's Day on March 8, will be the first of its kind in Malaysia, said Women, Family and Community Development Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Harjeet Singh.

He said 400,000 women were expected to gather in Putrajaya, while 600,000 others would rally at the other venues.

Among the host states that will see the biggest gatherings are Perak, Kedah and Penang.

Harjeet said the main purpose of the walk is to show solidarity towards the Government's commitment in empowering women in Malaysia and to celebrate the successes of Malaysian women in various sectors.

Harjeet said men who wish to show their appreciation towards women and their achievements are also welcome to join the walk. (ANI)
