Walsh to join Melbourne cricket club on Bermuda tour

Hamilton (Bermuda), March 9 (IANS/CMC) Former West Indies cricketer Courtney Walsh and Robert Samuels will accompany Melbourne Cricket Club on a short tour of Bermuda next month.

They are due to arrive in Bermuda April 10 and will play two Twenty20 matches against Commercial Cricket League side Jamaican Association and hosts Somerset Cricket Club as well as three 50 overs matches against the senior national team, reports CMC.

All matches will be played at Somerset Cricket Club.

Fast bowler Walsh, 50, who claimed 519 Test wickets, will serve as tour manager.

Samuels, Melbourne's coach and older brother of current Test player Marlon Samuels, played in six Tests and eight one-day internationals.

The left-handed batsman amassed 372 runs in 12 Test innings.

"Anything is possible," said Samuels, when asked by the Royal Gazette if he plans to play during the tour.

"I'm coming down as coach and Courtney is coming down as manager, so whatever we can do to ensure it's a great tour we will help the team."

Top players Marlon Samuels, Carlton Baugh and Nikita Miller are unavailable for the tour because of other commitments.

The tourists will be led by skipper Yannick Elliott, who currently playss for Jamaica's one-day and T20 teams.
