Montevideo, March 9 (IANS) Uruguay press applauded Nacional de Football's 1-0 victory over Argentina's Boca Juniors as "heroic".
Nacional tops its Copa Libertadores group following Thursday's victory in La Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires, reports Xinhua.
The team deployed "devotion and courage. Nacional played with the 'charrua' style: when everyone is united and together they stand out", said El Pais.
El Pais said the most "outstanding" Nacional players were goalkeeper Jorge Bava who did "great catching" and Argentinean midfielder Israel Damonte, who "was like a lion in the field".
Daily La Republica gave Nacional "golden points", hailing the victory as "a huge step to reach quarterfinals".
Daily El Observador said Nacional showed an efficient defence system. "With a great defensive strategy and only 10 players from minute 73 (after defender Alejandro Lembo was expelled), our team awed La Bombonera stadium," said El Observador.
Nacional leads Group 1 with seven points, followed by Mexico's Toluca FC with four, Boca Juniors with three, and Ecuador's Barcelona Sporting Club with two.
