Sydney, Feb. 11 (ANI): Facebook pages showing outer Melbourne suburbs as 'dangerous and classless' have come under fire for posting racist and sexist memes.
Popular pages have singled out suburbs, including Dandenong, Broadmeadows, Ringwood and Frankston, ridiculing the people and culture.
According to the Herald Sun, many of the pages have more than 10,000 followers each.
Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon said that the southeast memes page was 'disappointing' and did not reflect the views of the community.
However, Leader reader DZ said the page was funny, not offensive.
He wrote that people need to take a chill pill and learn to laugh again, adding that the majority of posts on there are aimed at 'white-anglo' people anyway so get off the 'racist-train'.
Dandenong North resident George Sykalios said people who did not like it did not have to read it.
The pages feature images purporting to be from the suburb, with captions designed to ridicule or poke fun at, but some material could be classed as racist and sexist.
Chair of the Ethnic Community Council of the South East, Sam Afra, said the southeast site did not seem to attack any specific cultures, it added. (ANI)
