United Kingdom,Human Interest/Society, Wed, 06 Feb 2013 IANS

London, Feb 6 (IANS) The world's longest domestic cat - a 1.23-metre Maine Coon named Stewie - has died in the US at the age of eight, BBC reported.

Stewie's owner, Robin Hendrickson, said the record-holding cat died after battling cancer.

He was also the record-holder for world's longest cat tail.

The pet from Reno, Nevada, was awarded the record, measured from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail, by the Guinness World Records in 2010.

The cat was a certified therapy animal that frequently visited a local senior centre.

"Stewie was always very social and loved meeting new people," Hendrickson said. "He has touched many lives, and for that I am grateful."
