Washington, Jan. 23 (ANI): Americans are split when it comes to President Barack Obama's gun proposals, with a small plurality supporting his plan, a new poll has found.

The Pew Research Poll found that 39 percent of Americans said that they thought the proposals, which include universal background checks, a ban on high capacity magazines and tougher laws on gun trafficking are "about right".

However, 31 percent think that the president has gone too far with his plans, while only 13 percent think that he hasn't gone far enough.

According to Politico, the poll found that Americans' support varied along party lines with more than 50 percent of Republicans thinking that the proposals go too far.

In contrast, more than half of Democrats think the proposals are just right. Independents go either way with 33 percent saying that president has gone too far, and 36 percent thinking that he's got it right.

The poll also found that there is also a split between the sexes with 36 percent of men saying Obama is going too far in his attempts to address gun control, in comparison to 26 percent of women, the report added. (ANI)
