Shanghai, Jan 19 (IANS) Taxis can now be called in China's business capital by just uploading the passenger's location on a smartphone app.
People can access the app through a website, 51yangzhao.com, or via the Android app store.
Passengers have to pay only four yuan (64 US cents) for each booking, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The application, developed by the Shanghai Dazhong Transport Group, will ease the trouble of waving down taxis and the difficulties of telephoning to book a cab.
"It's also good for drivers. We find that a great many of cabbies are keen on such booking to avoid driving on the roads aimlessly," a company official said.
Taxis within 500 metres of the passenger get the signal. The cabs can then send their vehicle information to the passenger.
The firm has included 9,000 cabs in the service, out of 50,000 taxis in the entire city. Other operators are also expected to join in.
