London, Jan.17 (ANI): The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has grounded Boeing 787 Dreamliners after an aircraft made an emergency landing outside Tokyo, intensifying the aircraft's inspection process.
The plane, operated by Japan's All Nippon Airways, made an emergency landing after indications of smoke and battery error in the cockpit controls, the Telegraph reports.The incident is the sixth in the past ten days to hit the Dreamliner, often called as the future of air travel.
The craft has cost Boeing billions of dollars due to its radical new design, systems and materials.
The FAA, which conducted more than 200,000 hours of tests on the 787 before it came into service in late 2011, said that the temporary grounding of all US-based planes will allow investigators to examine any potential risks in the Dreamliner.
The regulator added that it will join hands with Boeing and airlines for development of a proper plan for resuming operations of the US 787 fleet soon and without any risk.
The FAA, which launched a comprehensive review of the aircraft, recommended similar action for other national aviation authorities. ANA and Japan Airlines, the two carriers involved in all the incidents, have grounded their 24 Dreamliners. (ANI)
