Baloch CM Raisani 'to resign' following Quetta unrest

Lahore, Sun, 13 Jan 2013 ANI

Lahore, Jan. 13 (ANI): Balochistan Chief Minister Nawaz Aslam Raisani has decided to resign from his office amid growing calls for Governor's Rule in the province.

Raisani made the decision as Shia families refused to bury their dead after a series of bombings in Quetta, and vowed to continue their sit-in protest until the army takes over security, reports the Daily Times.

President Asif Ali Zardari also chaired a meeting in Karachi late on Saturday and discussed the situation in Quetta where hundreds of women and children were among the demonstrators, standing alongside more than 60 coffins carrying victims' shrouded bodies.

Law Minister Farooq H Naek and Waseem Sajjad attended the meeting while minister Khusrid Shah also briefed the president on his failed talks with Shia protesters earlier in the day.

According to reports, Raisani decided to resign under pressure from the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party. He will submit his resignation in the next 24 hours, the reports added. (ANI)
