Pulwama, Dec 28 (ANI): In a joint operation launched by the police, the paramilitary and the Army, the security forces on Friday morning gun down a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant in the Chandgam area of Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The police and the armed forces launched the joint operation after they received information about presence of rebels in the area.
The militants were trapped in a house and all the civilians were evacuated from the encounter site.
The police along with the personnel of 55 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned the village and started house-to-house search.
During the search operation, the militants hiding in the village started firing.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that the operation was still in progress.
"We got the information that two LeT (Lashkar-e-Toiba) militants- Imitiaz Tyali and Khalid are hiding. One militant has been killed and the operation is still going on. Police, CRPF and army have launched the operation. One more militant is trapped inside.
"The area was cordoned off around 1.30 am. The first firing took place around 3.00 am and then it stopped. We have cordoned off the area to avoid any casualty of the civilians as we were waiting for the daylight. The firing has again started," said Kumar.
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency, and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades. (ANI)
