Quetta, Dec 26 (ANI): The Pakistan Army has launched a massive operation in the hometown of Baloch leader Dr Allah Nazar in Balochistan killing 12 people, including six women and four children on Wednesday.
Hundreds of military personnel supported by four gunship helicopters laid siege to Mehi Mashkay area in Balochistan on Tuesday morning, targeting the Baloch guerrilla commander's house and nearby settlements.
On Wednesday morning, the army killed 12 people. Those killed were identified as Khuda Bux, Jamil, Mehnaz, Kher Biki and Ali Jan.
The sources in Baloch National Movement, a political party of Balochistan, said several men and women, including Dr Nazar's elderly mother have also been reported injured due to heavy bombardment in the area.
One local source said that people have gathered in the area's graveyard to escape bombardment.
One personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) was killed and two others were wounded in fighting with Baloch guerillas.
Dr Allah Nazar, a doctor by profession, is leading an insurgency in restive Balochistan, demanding an independent status for the region.
Baloch political leaders have condemned the operation, dubbing it an attempt to cow down Dr Nazar.
The Baloch National Movement (BNM), the Baloch Republican Party and the Baloch students Organization (BSO), have called for a shutter-down strike in Balochistan to protest the "genocide" of the Baloch people.
In a statement, BNM general secretary Dr. Manan Baloch said: "We are fighting for our independence and the army operation by Pakistan is the violation of human rights."
In a joint statement, leaders of the Baloch nationalist parties called upon the Baloch politicians to foster unity to confront the oppressive measures of the Pakistani regime.
The Pakistan Army has accused that the BLF guerillas on the directives of Dr Allah Nazar were spreading terror in Khuzdar, Maskay and Mekran. (ANI)
