New York, December 17 (ANI): A New Jersey woman falsely told cops her husband was plotting to blow up a plane in order to stop him from leaving the country without her.
Police rush to Newark Airport after Eunice Ukaegbu, 50, called them reporting that her hubby, Okieze Ukaegbu, 58, is planning to "blow up" a Paris-bound Delta Air Lines flight, authorities said.
"He told me he was going to blow up the airplane. I went through his suitcase - and I panicked," she told The New York Post.
Cops first arrived at the couple's Union, NJ, home to question Eunice.
Port Authority police and other law-enforcement agencies then rushed to find Ukaegbu, who was traveling to Nigeria via Paris.
Ukaegbu stayed at the gate until officers arrived, then calmly told cops that his wife "had an alcohol problem" and was lying, authorities said.
They took Ukaegbu, who had already passed security, into custody, authorities said.
Cops pulled his luggage off the aircraft, searched it with bomb-sniffing dogs, then took him away for questioning, causing him to miss his flight.
Cops have released Ukaegbu from custody and now say they plan to charge his wife.
Ukaegbu claimed she filed an honest police report because she suspected her husband was a terrorist.
But authorities contend she's the fiery one. (ANI)
