Kuala Lumpur, Dec. 16 (ANI): Foreign workers in Malaysia must carry their original travel documents with them at all times to prevent from being detained during operations.
Sabah Immigration Department Director Datuk Mohammad Mentek said that foreigners who failed to present their original travel documents when stopped for questioning would be detained on the spot.
He said the detained immigrants would, however, be released if their family members or employers produced their original documents, the Star reports.
According to the report, Mentek said even those who claimed that their passports were being processed at the Immigration Department would still be sent to temporary detention centres or lock-ups unless they had the original copies of supporting documents with them.
"The Consul-General needs to understand that not all enforcement officers have the list of legal foreign workers during operations," Mentek said. (ANI)
