Indian-origin nurse slams colleagues in suicide note

United Kingdom,Crime/Disaster/Accident,Diaspora, Fri, 14 Dec 2012 IANS

London, Dec 14 (IANS) Indian-origin nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who was found hanging after a prank call to the hospital treating the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge, left a suicide note criticising senior hospital staff on how they treated her in the days leading up to her death.

The 46-year-old mother of two left three suicide notes following the prank call by Australian radio presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian, the Daily Mail reported.

In one of the notes, she criticised colleagues at the King Edward VII hospital over how they treated her following the controversial call.

In another note, she described how she struggled to come to terms with the prank call by the two Australians. The third and final letter is "practical" and deals with her funeral plans, the daily said.

The body was discovered in her room in the hospital staff quarters last week. Two notes were found nearby and the third was among her possessions.

Saldanha had also sent a number of emails and made telephone calls that police believe might help explain what happened.

During a hearing at the Westminster Coroner's Court Thursday, police said there were also injuries to her wrist but there were no suspicious circumstances.

Scotland Yard detectives are examining the suicide notes, as well as interviewing Saldanha's friends, family and colleagues.

Saldanha, a night sister, was the senior nurse on duty when she took a call from the Australians, who were pretending to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles.

She unwittingly transferred the call to a colleague, who described in detail the condition of Kate, who was being treated for severe morning sickness.

A memorial service is due to take place in Bristol Friday night and a mass is to be held at London's Westminster Cathedral Saturday morning.

The mass will be offered "for the repose of the soul of Jacintha and her grieving family", a spokesman for Westminster Cathedral told the daily.

Southern Cross Austereo, the parent company of Sydney-based 2Day FM which broadcast the hoax call, has ended Greig and Christian's "Hot 30" show.
