Pakistan,Indo-Pak/Pakistan,Politics, Mon, 10 Dec 2012 IANS

Islamabad, Dec 10 (IANS) Pakistan will not allow religious extremists to impose their views on the public, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said Monday.

The government will safeguard fundamental rights of people, Ashraf said at a ceremony organised here on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.

He said the government has ratified seven out of nine international conventions on human rights, including the rights for children, women and the elderly.

Pakistan's constitution ensured equal rights for all and the country was aware of its obligations to the international community, the Dawn quoted Ashraf as saying.

The prime minister said: "The public should stand by the government's efforts to sustain democracy, to foster tolerance and safeguard the rights of the people."
