London, Dec 5 (ANI): The world's tallest woman, Yao Defen, has died at the age of 40 in her village in China.
Defen, who stood 7 feet 8 inch tall, passed away on the morning of November 13 in the house in Shitang village in eastern China, according to Anhui News, a local news website.
According to the Telegraph, Yao developed gigantism because of a tumour on her pituitary gland and had topped 6ft 6in by the time she was 15 years old.
The tumour was discovered after she fainted while playing basketball and was removed in 2006.
However, she continued to have other health problems.
She also weighed over 30 stone and had size 26 feet.
She worked for a circus in her youth, performing in a freak show, and had few friends.
According to local media reports, despite coming from a poor family, she declined government handouts. (ANI)
