Shakhtar's Luiz Adriano banned for one match

Switzerland,Sports, Wed, 28 Nov 2012 IANS

Nyon, Nov 28 (IANS) UEFA inflicted one Champions League match ban on Ukrainian football club Shakhtar Donetsk forward Luiz Adriano for the lack of fair play in scoring a goal uncontested against Nordsjaelland.

UEFA said its disciplinary panel found the Brazilian forward guilty of "violation of the principles of conduct" in Denmark last week, reports Xinhua.

"The Shakhtar player has also been required to perform one full day of community football service," UEFA said in a statement.

Luiz Adriano provoked outrage last Tuesday when he ignored the sportsmanship code after play was stopped to treat an injured opponent. After play restarted with an uncontested drop ball, he chased the ball down when Nordsjaelland defenders stopped to let it to reach their goalkeeper and went on to score.

The controversial goal was allowed by the referee and levelled the score to 1?1. Luiz Adriano eventually scored three in the victory which sealed Shakhtar's place in the last 16.

Adriano will miss the home match against Juventus Dec 5, though the Ukrainian champions has already reached the knockout stage after beating Nordsjaelland 5?2.

Shakhtar will win the group if they avoid defeat against the Italian champions without their leading striker.

Chelsea, the defending champions, can still advance if they beat Nordsjaelland and Juventus lose in Ukraine.
