Beijing, Nov 20 (IANS) Female students at Chinese universities have demanded more toilets, complaining that the 1:1 ratio of male and female toilets is inadequate.
Student representatives from 12 universities across the country wrote to their presidents on the World Toilet Day Monday, urging them to solve their problem.
Xia Jiawei, a Hangzhou Normal University student, said the number of female students in her campus is seven times more than males, yet the toilets are in equal ratio.
"I have to rush to toilet as soon as classes end, otherwise I might wait in long queues," the China Daily Tuesday quoted Xia as saying.
"We don't expect the ratio of male and female toilets is compatible with that of male and female students, but the status quo in girl?dominated schools is obviously unreasonable," Xia said.
It was not the first time that female students demanded an increase of female toilets in campus. In February, several female students from Guangzhou had staged a performing art to raise public attention on the issue.
