Neymar given one?match ban

Brazil,Sports, Sun, 18 Nov 2012 IANS

Rio de Janeiro, Nov 18 (IANS) Santos star Neymar will miss his team's duel with Corinthians next Nov 24 after receiving his third yellow card in the Brazil's Serie A football championship.

Neymar was booked for diving in the penalty area late in the second half during Santos' 2?0 home victory over Figueirense at the Vila Belmiro Stadium Saturday, reports Xinhua.

Referee Claudio Lima deemed the striker had exaggerated contact with goalkeeper Volpi in a bid to win a penalty, a decision that drew ironic applause from Santos coach Muricy Ramalho.

The 20?year?old endured a rare off night and appeared tired just three days after playing a full 90 minutes during Brazil's 1?1 draw against Colombia in New Jersey, United States.

But Santos showed they are more than just a one?man team with Felipe Anderson and Pato Rodriguez finding the net.

After the match Ramalho admitted he is already thinking about next season as the club aims to atone for a forgettable season.

"The team lost its way a bit this year" Ramalho said. "We played well in the first six months but then tapered off. We have been very poor in the league. We have to be more consistent throughout the entire year."

After lifting the Copa Libertadores and Campeonato Paulista title in 2011, Santos has failed to win a trophy in 2012. Muricy's team is currently ninth in Brazil's Serie A championship with two matches remaining.
