New Delhi, Nov.18 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said the East Asia Summit is foremost forum for promoting peace in the Asia- Pacific region.
Singh leaves for Phnom Penh Cambodia to attend the 10th ASEAN Summit and the 7th East Asia summit.
In his departure statement, Singh said: "East Asia Summit is foremost forum for promoting peace , stability and prosperity in Asia Pacific region. This forum also serves as a useful platform for enhancing cooperation in the region and discussing regional security issues."
The year 2012 also marks the 20th anniversary of dialogue and 10th anniversary of summit level engagement between ASEAN - India
Dr. Singh will also hold bilateral discussions with ASEAN leaders and is also expected to meet U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on the sidelines of the meet
Singh also emphasized on the commencement of regional comprehensive partnership with ASEAN.
He said: "This year we are preparing to launch the negotiations for a regional comprehensive economic partnership among ASEAN and its FTA partners including India."
