Islamabad, Nov. 12 (ANI): Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has alleged that Pakistan was coerced into becoming a U.S. ally in the war against terror by a military dictator.
"He brought this war to Pakistan. It has failed to achieve its objectives of ending terrorism," The Express Tribune quoted Fazl, as saying.
Although Fazl did not mention the name of the military dictator, he appeared to be referring to former president General Pervez Musharraf.
According to the JUI-F leader, terrorism has grown ever since the U.S. decided to wage war on the Al-Qaeda and alleged that its members were present in Afghanistan.
"Eleven years after Afghanistan was attacked, can the US say it has achieved its objectives? Instead, the menace of terrorism has gone on to plague the whole region," he said.
Criticising democratic forces in Pakistan for failing to implement the resolutions of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CCI), Fazl said it was their responsibility to bring Islamic law to the country. He added that the present situation in Pakistan demands that religious parties participate in the upcoming elections.
Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, who is believed to be the mastermind the 2008 Mumbai attacks, said that the Muslim world would have to unite to rise against anti-Islam elements.
Saeed said that the biggest problem that Muslims face today is 'slavery' not poverty, and that "only a united front against anti-Islam forces can free Muslims of this slavery". (ANI)
