Beijing, Nov 6 (IANS) A total of 2,270 delegates have been elected to participate in the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), scheduled to open in Beijing Thursday.
For the first time assessments on preliminary nominees have been carried out, with an average margin ratio of 13.4 percent in 40 electoral units of 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, Xinhua reported Tuesday.
During the election, candidates outnumbered elected delegates by over 15 percent, compared to the election of delegates to the 17th CPC National Congress, and about 10 percent at the 16th CPC National Congress.
The election began with the recommendation of preliminary nominees at the party's grassroots units, followed by the assessments on preliminary nominees, the publication of the namelist of preliminary nominees, the confirmation of final candidates, and the election of delegates.
