Yangon, Nov 5 (IANS) Norway and Denmark have opened their embassies in Yangon, official media reported Monday.

The opening of the two embassies Sunday was attended by Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt, reported Xinhua citing the New Light of Myanmar.

Stoltenberg was quoted as saying that Norwegian companies can now invest in Myanmar as the economic sanctions against Myanmar have been lifted, while Myanmar Minister at the President's Office U Aung Min said the friendship between Myanmar and Norway would flourish in all sectors.

Schmidt hailed the establishment of the Danish Embassy in Yangon, saying that a new chapter has been opened between Myanmar and Denmark to strengthen bilateral friendship, while U Aung Min expressed hope that the Myanmar-Denmark friendship would help develop all sectors.

Both the two prime ministers traveled to Nay Pyi Taw and separately met Aung San Suu Kyi, chairperson of the Committee for Rule of Law and Tranquility of the House of Representatives (Lower House) and leader of the National League for Democracy.

Myanmar President U Thein Sein and Speaker of the Lower House U Shwe Mann also met Norwegian Prime Minister Stoltenberg in the new capital Saturday, a day before U Thein Sein headed for Asia-Europe Meeting in Laos Sunday.
