Rio de Janeiro, Oct 24 (IANS) Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has pledged to upgrade the country's airport infrastructure and develop the defence industry.
Rousseff Tuesday said that it is essential for Brazil to "offer air transportation services up to the expectations of the Brazilian society", reported Xinhua.
The president made the remarks at a ceremony for the Aviators' Day, a week after the Viracopos International Airport was closed following the breakdown of a plane on the runway.
Defence Minister Celso Amorim also highlighted the importance of the developing the defence industry, saying even though Brazil is a peaceful country, it cannot ignore its defence.
