China to link solar power to national grid

China,Business/Economy, Sun, 21 Oct 2012 IANS

Beijing, Oct 21 (IANS) China will connect power generated from solar energy to the national grid in a bid to help the industry weather difficult times, an official said.

"A document on how state grid will support solar PV industry is waiting government approval," deputy director of China Renewable Energy Society Meng Xiangan said.

State Grid Corp., China's largest state-owned utility company, is expected to allow grid companies to approve solar plants with installed capacities of less than 10,000 kilowatts each to be connected to the grid, China Daily reported Saturday.

State Grid also plans not to charge solar power companies for integration with the grid, which usually costs millions of yuan.

According to the plan, China's installed distributed solar power generation capacity will reach 15 gigawatts by the end of 2015.

Chinese PV solar companies are facing punitive tariffs stemming from anti-dumping and anti-subsidies investigations launched in the US and Europe.
