Berlin, Oct 21 (IANS) German record champions Bayern Munich extended their start-record to eight wins in eight matches following a 5-0 demolition of Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga.
Bayern were rarely challenged against a lacklustre Dusseldorf side that showed no interest to stage any offensive actions, reports Xinhua.
From kick-off Saturday, the Bavarians controlled the proceedings on the pitch at the outsold Esprit Arena to establish a ball possession of 80 percent.
Nevertheless the Bavarians needed patience as their top scorer Mario Mandzukic didn't break the deadlock until the 28th minute. Frenchman Franck Ribery assisted with a diagonal pass into the box to see Mandzukic scoring his seventh goal of the season.
Bayern doubled the lead eight minutes later as Luis Gustavo capitalized on a spilled ball by Dusseldorf goalkeeper Farbian Giefer, to tap in into the open goal from very close range.
With beginning of the second half Dusseldorf offensive actions flared up but Bayern's Thomas Mueller destroyed all hopes of a consolation goal when he hammered home from 15 metres to add the third goal to the lead.
Mueller sealed his brace four minutes before final whistle until Rafinha marked the final 5-0 score.
The Bavarians consolidate their top position owing to a faultless start into the season whereas Dusseldorf suffered their second loss of the season.
