Brussels, Oct 21 (IANS) India is ready to support the European Union to help weather its financial crisis, India's new Ambassador to the EU and Belgium Dinkar Khullar has said.
"It is a gesture on our part to be international partners. We are ready to give some support through the IMF (International Monetary Fund)," Khullar said.
However, he said the EU has not directly approached India for any assistance.
Khullar presented his credentials to Belgian King Albert II Wednesday, and is to present his credentials to European Council president Herman Van Rompuy Monday.
He told EuAsiaNews that "there is no scope for decoupling in today's global economy".
"No country and not a country of India's size can take the option of saying we are decoupled from what is going on elsewhere."
He pointed to the announcement made by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the G20 meeting that India will contribute $10 billion to the IMF fund.
"While it is indeed their problem, we will be watching very carefully what they are doing and we will be the happiest to see them recover as quickly as possible.
"They are 27 countries, democracies and much of the globe is looking forward to quick and early revitalisation of Europe," EuAsiaNews Sunday quoted Khullar as saying.
While India's relations with the EU began dominantly as an economic partnership they have gradually taken on a wider dimension -- the strategic dimension, he explained.
