Washington, Oct. 19 (ANI): US Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's 'binders full of women' comment during the second presidential debate has become a political and cultural phenomenon, which was mocked by President Barack Obama and Photoshop-savvy bloggers alike.
Romney made the remark while giving his record of hiring women while he was governor of Massachusetts, in an effort to appeal to female voters who could hold the key to the presidential race.
"I went to a number of women's groups and said, 'Can you help us find folks?'" Romney said, adding: "And they brought us whole binders full of women."
According to the New York Daily News, the phrase 'binders full of women' quickly became the third-most-searched term on Google and a series of amusing Internet images were created.
One image showed the 'Most Interesting Man in the World', the iconic Dos Equis beer pitchman, saying, "I don't always hire women, but when I do, I have binders full of them to choose from."
In Massachusetts, the group, the Massachusetts Government Appointments Project, or MassGAP, that created the 'now-infamous binders' said that 'Romney had it all wrong'.
The group said that it proactively gave Romney the list of female candidates when he was elected governor and was not responding to a request.
According to the report, Twitter exploded with jokes, much as it did when Romney threatened to slash funding for PBS and Big Bird in the first debate.
The storm prompted the Obama campaign to pay to promote the line on Twitter. Obama himself used it while campaigning in Iowa.
"We don't have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women ready to work in these fields right now," Obama crowed. (ANI)
