Russian Federation,Sports, Wed, 17 Oct 2012 IANS

Moscow, Oct 17 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Igor Akinfeev has set an all-time record for a Russian or Soviet football team goalkeeper of playing 707 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

The CSKA stopper broke the record Tuesday of Zenit St. Petersburg's Vyacheslav Malafeev, who retired from international duty after Euro 2012. Malafeev set the record of 653 minutes in May.

Akinfeev, 26, went through that mark in the 36th minute of his country's World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan, which ended 1-0 for the Russians.

The run of clean sheets has lasted seven games, starting in Aug 2011 with a 1-0 win over Serbia.

Akinfeev has played 57 matches for Russia during which he has been scored against 44 times.
