US judge approves $6 billion 'default judgment' against Iran, Taliban, Al Qaeda for 9/11 attacks

Washington, Thu, 04 Oct 2012 ANI

Washington, Oct. 4 (ANI): A New York federal judge has approved a 6 billion-dollar 'default judgment' against Iran, and militant insurgent groups, Taliban and Al Qaeda, after finding them culpable in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York.

According to the Fox News, the US judge signed a default judgment pertaining to a lawsuit brought by relatives of 47 victims, who lost their lives during the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Though the judgment is largely symbolic, it provides some hope to the relatives of Sept. 11 victims that someday they can recover damages from the incident. A federal magistrate judge had recommended the damages over summer this year, the report said.

However, Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly denied any Iranian connection to the Sept. 11 attacks or to Al Qaeda, the report added.

The September 11, 2001 attacks were a were a series of four coordinated suicide attacks on the United States, which included the twin towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, after 2 airplanes, flown by Al Qaeda hijackers, crashed into the buildings in Lower Manhattan, New York, killing over thousands of Americans.
