China launches radio for rural residents

Beijing, Sep 26 (IANS) China's national radio Wednesday launched the country's first nationwide radio channel targeting rural residents.

The "Country Voice" channel will air news, and programmes on science, culture and entertainment 24 hours a day, Xinhua reported.

The programme content will also be available online.

In a congratulatory message, Premier Wen Jiabao said the channel will serve China's agricultural modernisation and meet the demand of rural residents for a richer cultural life.
