Islamabad, Sep 8 (ANI): Every foreigner working in Pakistan would be viewed suspiciously and would find it even harder to work in the country after a US doctor faked as a NGO worker and helped the US' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to track down former Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden, an editorial in a Pakistan daily has said.
Dr. Shakil Afridi, who acted as a spy for the CIA, set up a fake vaccination programme to obtain DNA samples to identify Bin Laden.
According to the editorial in The Express Tribune, it should come as no surprise that the new target is the respected international aid group, 'Save the Children', six of whose foreign workers have been told to leave Pakistan after being accused of introducing Afridi to the CIA.
Given CIA's history, it should come as no surprise that the intelligence agency can seek to recruit both local and foreign NGO workers. But there is a difference between noticing this possibility in general terms and making very specific accusations against individuals, the editorial said.
By singling out the workers of Save the Children, the Pakistan Government has made all of its 2,000 members prime targets for militants and now every foreigner working in Pakistan will be viewed suspiciously and will find it even harder to work there, the editorial concluded. (ANI)
