London, Sept 4 (ANI): Hamas has reportedly blocked access to pornographic websites in the Gaza strip, in order to 'protect the fabric of society'.
Under the new rule by the Ministry of Communications, the ten largest Internet service providers in the Palestinian territory must block all XXX-rated content or face fines.
Hamas claimed the move is necessary to protect 'the fabric of Palestinian society' as more and more Palestinians are seeking adult content online, the Daily Mail reports.
According to the report, now, internet users in the territory who surf to adult content will be greeted with a message that the website is blocked because it 'violates etiquette.'
The order from the Ministry of Communications said that any company that fails to filter out adult content can be subject to fines under Palestinian penal law.
According to the paper, Hamas has worked to crack down on social freedoms in recent years, banning women from smoking water pipes in cafes and passing laws that prevent men from cutting women's hair. (ANI)
