Bahrain files official complaint against Iran, demands apology

Manama, Sun, 02 Sep 2012 ANI

Manama, Sept. 1 (Xinhua-ANI): Bahraini Government on Saturday filed an official complaint against Iran over the misrepresentation during the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran.

Hamad Ahmed Al Amer, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Regional and GCC Affairs, on Saturday filed an official protest against Iranian authorities after translators working for the Iranian state TV switched "Syria" in remarks of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to "Bahrain" during the opening session of the NAM summit held Thursday.

Syria, whose government was described as "oppressive" by Morsi, was mistranslated twice into Farsi as Bahrain, said Al Amer, adding that it is the latest example of Iranian media's intervention in Bahrain's internal affairs.

Bahrain requested the Iranian government to apologize and take necessary action to avoid this kind of act.

Last month, Bahrain reinstated its ambassador to Iran Rashed Al Dossary, recalled last year from Tehran, after which was accused by Manama of meddling in its domestic affairs. (Xinhua-ANI)
