Islamabad, Aug 21 (ANI): A Representative of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs has said the U.S. is ready to help Pakistan in its terror war, adding that the latter should stand firm against the terrorist attacks.
Representative Howard Berman said terrorists want to defeat the Pakistan Army and destabilise an important country like Pakistan. He said they should stand by the government institutions against the terrorists who want to destabilize the government as well as army, reports The News.
According to earlier media reports, Pakistani and U.S. officials were considering "joint campaigns" to counter terrorism in Afghanistan and Pakistan against the Haqqani Network and the Taliban.
Pakistani officials, however, denied any agreement with Washington for a joint operation in North Waziristan, stating that "routine" actions on each side of the border "should not be mistaken for 'joint operations'".
Washington has long demanded that Pakistan take action against the Haqqanis, which the U.S. accused of attacking the U.S. embassy in Kabul last September and acting like the "veritable arm" of the Pakistani intelligence.
Pakistan has in turn demanded Afghan and U.S. forces do more to stop Pakistani Taliban militants crossing the border to launch attacks on its forces. (ANI)
