London, Aug 17 (IANS) An Asian-origin estate agent has been jailed in Britain on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice after he framed an innocent client for speeding.
Noweed Parvez, 36, was caught by a speed camera doing 70 km per hour in a 50 km per hour zone in November 2010. The man tried to shift the blame by giving police the name of his 35-year-old customer, Simon Maher, the Daily Mail reported.
Maher was convicted of speeding, despite photographs showing an Asian man behind the wheel and Parvez's company logo on the car.
He eventually won the battle to clear his name after the photo of the speeding car was fully analysed. The driver was proved to be Parvez who had been looking after Maher's rented property.
It was found that Parvez feared a driving ban.
Parvez admitted to attempting to pervert the course of justice and was jailed for 12 months.
