Rio de Janeiro, Aug 16 (IANS) Brazil international and former Lyon star Fred scored his ninth goal of the Brazilian Serie A season as Fluminense drew 1-1 away to Cruzeiro.
Fred scored with a precise 43rd-minute header Wednesday to cancel out Wellington Paulista's third-minute opener and keep Fluminense second in the championship standings, reports Xinhua.
"It was a tough game but the result was a reflection of our hard work," Fred said after the match. "When you have quality players around you, it makes it a lot easier to score goals."
At the Engenhao Stadium in Rio, former AC Milan and Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf scored in Botafogo's 2-0 victory over Sport.
Seedorf intercepted an errant pass before unleashing a low shot from the edge of the area - his second goal since joining the Rio de Janeiro club in July.
