London, Aug 3 (IANS/RIA Novosti) New Zealand duo Eric Murray and Hamish Bond glided serenely to an Olympic gold in the men's heavyweight coxless pairs here Friday.
Murray and Bond were in another league, crossing the line in six minutes, 16.65 seconds, at least two lengths clear.
"We had the speed. No one else sustained it," said Murray.
Bond said the team had been on tenterhooks before the off.
"It is what we've been working for the last four years. I'm so glad we pulled it off."
Five seconds back, the French won a close duel for the silver with the British, clocking 6:21.11, with the home team coming in less than a second later.
