London, July 29 (IANS/RIA Novosti) China's Guo Wenjun took a second-consecutive Olympic gold medal with a last-ditch bullseye in the women's 10 metre air pistol Sunday.
Guo pounced on an errant final shot from France's Celine Goberville, ranked sixth in the world, who had led for most of the final but could only manage 8.8 in the last round.
Guo kept her cool to hit a 10.8, one tenth of a point short of a perfect shot, to overtake Goberville and claim the gold, more than making up the 0.5 difference between the top two.
It was a second-consecutive gold for the 26-year-old, who won on home soil in Beijing four years ago.
Goberville claimed the silver in a shootout with Ukraine's Olena Kostevych, who took the bronze, after they finished level after 10 rounds.
It's a second shooting gold for China, which claimed the first top prize of the London Games with Yi Siling's victory in the 10 metre air rifle Saturday.
