China sends two activists to labour camp for joining Hong Kong pro-democracy protests

Beijing, Thu, 26 Jul 2012 ANI

Beijing, July 26 (ANI): Chinese officials have sent two activists to a labour camp for joining Hong Kong's annual pro-democracy protests.

According to the BBC, Song Ningsheng and Zeng Jiuzi face 14 months each for their involvement in the July 1 demonstrations.

They have been pleading with Chinese authorities to reopen investigations into the deaths of their spouses.

Hong Kong's rally for human rights takes place annually, but has been bolstered this year by anger towards Beijing.

Zeng's son, Liu Zhonghua, said that the police told him that his mother and Song "took part in an illegal demonstration".

"The two activists are being held at a police station in Jiangxi before being sent to the camp", Hong Kong-based rights group, People's Rights Union of China, said. (ANI)
