Washington, July 23 (ANI): James Holmes, who is alleged to have opened fire during a packed midnight screening of Batman film 'The Dark Knight Rises,' in the US, was obsessed with one of America's most notorious killers, it has emerged.
According to the gunman's near neighbour and occasional drinking partner Pete King, Holmes "idolised" Ted Kaczynsky, 'Unabomber', the self-styled -"Neo-Luddite survivalist" who terrorised America with a mail bomb campaign.
"He spoke about the Unabomber a few times as if he were some kind of local hero," The Daily Express quoted King, as saying.
"I knew James as a shy, inward guy but his eyes would light up when he talked about 'Ted', who he referred to as a 'misunderstood genius," he said.
"How could anyone have guessed that such a loner would turn into an even bigger monster than his hero?" he added.
Holmes, 24, allegedly set off a smoke bomb and killed nearly 12 people during the screening of the new Batman movie at movie hall in Denver. (ANI)
