Beijing, July 14 (IANS) To enable villagers renovate their dilapidated houses in rural areas, the Chinese government has decided to support four million poor households this year, China Daily reported Saturday.
The ministries of housing and urban-rural development, finance and national development and reform commission said the subsidies from the central government would reach 31.87 billion yuan ($5 billion) this year.
All counties in central and western regions as well as counties in eastern and coastal provinces of Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong and Guangdong will be covered by the scheme, it added.
Each impoverished rural household will be given a subsidy of 7,500 yuan on an average while 130,000 poor rural households in the border areas,will be granted another 2,500 yuan in subsidies each, Xinhua reported.
Another 130,080 rural households selected as examples for building energy-efficient renovation projects can obtain another 2,500 yuan in subsidies each.
