Islamabad, July 12 (ANI): The Contempt of Court law would ensure judicial and political restraint and help strengthening democracy in Pakistan, Law Minister Farooq H Naek has said.

Naek denied that the contempt law was approved in haste, saying that a thorough debate and clause-by-clause discussion had been held in the National Assembly and Senate before final approval, reports The Dawn.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and other opposition parties should have moved amendments in the contempt of court law in case they had any reservations, he said.

Moreover, he said that all the good clauses of Contempt of Court Law 1976, 1998, 2003-4 have been incorporated in the Contempt of Court Law 2012, and confusions in the erstwhile contempt law have been removed. (ANI)
