Only 18 pc Americans consider climate change world's biggest environmental threat

Washington, Wed, 04 Jul 2012 ANI

Washington, July 4 (ANI): Americans no longer consider climate change the most serious environmental problem, according to a new poll.

According to the Washington Post-Stanford University poll, only 18 percent Americans considered climate change as the world's biggest environmental issue.

This is a notable drop from 2007, when 33 percent said climate change was the world's top environmental concern, Politico reports.

According to the poll, about three in 10 Americans, or 29 percent, considered water and air pollution as world's biggest environmental issue.

Still, almost three-quarters said they do believe the Earth is getting warmer, while a similar number of people said temperatures would continue to rise if no action is taken.

A majority of Americans, 55 percent, believe the U.S. Government should do "a great deal" or "quite a bit" about the problem.

Almost 61 percent said that the responsibility to try to fix climate issues also extends to American businesses.

However, 18 percent believe the government is doing enough to tackle the globe's climate challenges, while an even smaller 13 percent said businesses are doing enough to combat the problem. (ANI)
