Afghan police kill 44 militants in 24 hours

Kabul, June 30 (Xinhua-ANI): Afghan police backed by army and the NATO-led forces have killed 44 anti-government armed militants over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

"Afghan National Police backed by the National Army and the NATO-led Coalition Forces launched seven joint cleanup operations in Kunar, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Logar, Khost and Herat provinces over the past 24 hours during which 44 armed insurgents have been killed," the statement emphasized.

It also said that 14 others wounded and three others were arrested during the operations.

Nevertheless, the statement did not say if there were any casualties on the security forces. Taliban militants fighting the government have yet to comment. (Xinhua-ANI)
