Islamabad, June 20 (ANI): A three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has concluded the Kohistan killings case, stating that the girls in question have been found alive and the claim of the killings was false.
Five women, including an 'accomplice', and two men were sentenced to death after a video emerged of them singing and clapping at a village wedding. The man and women were declared 'ghul' (fornicators) and were accused of defying Kohistani customs and bringing shame to their community. Locals claimed the women were slaughtered, while the two men fled the village.
The court stated that the investigative teams were sent twice to verify the claims aired on certain television channels about the killing of the women and the report submitted by the team was found to be satisfactory, reports The Dawn.
He further directed rights activist Farzana Bari to present the court with any other evidence that she might possess. Bari was a member of the fact-finding delegation sent to the northwestern region to look into the case. (ANI)
