Kiev, June 10 (IANS) At least five skydivers were killed and 13 injured after their plane crashlanded amid strong winds and heavy rain outside the Ukrainian capital Sunday, an official said.
The L-410 aircraft crashed at the Borodyanka airport, some 30 km west of Kiev, when the plane tried to land during a storm, Emergencies Ministry spokeswoman Yulia Ershova was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
There were 16 skydivers and two crew members on board.
The plane belonged to the Ukrainian School of Pilots, RIA Novosti reported.
"There was very heavy rain and strong winds which required them to make an emergency landing," Ershova said.
The cause of the accident was not known, and a probe has begun, she said.
