U.S. rejects majority of Pakistan support fund's 'unrealistic' demands: Report

Islamabad , Sun, 03 Jun 2012 ANI

Islamabad, June 3 (ANI): The United States has reportedly rejected most of the demands made by Pakistan with respect to the coalition support fund claiming them to be unrealistic.

According to The Dawn, the U.S. is adamant in its refusal to apologise for the Salala border checkpost incident that had resulted in the killings of 24 Pakistani soldiers in Novermber 2011.

The Obama administration is also cornering Pakistan as punishment for the apology demand, the paper said.

Sources claimed that Pakistan's government has decided to pass the burden of the U.S. punishment onto the public and the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) has been increased by 15 to 20 per cent to deal with the impasse.

The price hike would be affective from 1st July.

U.S. military authorities rejected Pakistan's request seeking 2.8 billion dollars in respect of the coalition support fund stating the request as unrealistic.

According to the paper, both Islamabad and Washington have held over half a dozen meetings related to the disbursement of the support fund's amount but the issue remains unresolved in face of the rejection by the US. (ANI)
